Dhaka:Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar has accused the BNP government of escalating violence in the country by attempting to consolidate power through what he termed a 'fascist' approach.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Porwar made these claims during an emergency briefing at Jamaat's central office in Moghbazar, where he criticized the government's alleged control tactics. He asserted that the BNP, after assuming power, is aggressively extending its influence over metropolitan areas, districts, upazilas, unions, and villages, leading to increased unrest.
Porwar further alleged that the law and order situation has worsened significantly in the seven months since the government took office. He criticized the Home Minister for remaining silent despite growing concerns from political parties and civil society about the deteriorating situation.
He accused government leaders and ministers of encouraging criminal activities, suggesting that criminals were emboldened by signals from high-ranking officials. Porwar claimed unrest was being fueled by issues such as the distribution of fertilizer, allowances for imams and khatibs, and the issuance of farmers' family cards.
Porwar also mentioned political bias in the recruitment of primary school teachers, suggesting that candidates associated with Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal were favored over others. He argued this was part of a strategy to appoint BNP-affiliated individuals as polling and presiding officers in the next election.
Additionally, he accused reserved women MPs of interfering with elected MPs' duties, alleging that development fund allocations were being directed through these MPs' DO letters instead of those from elected lawmakers.
Referring to recent incidents, Porwar highlighted the attack and vandalism at the Radda health center in Mirpur and an assault on content creator Salman Muqtadir's studio in the ECB area. He called for the immediate arrest and trial of those responsible for the attacks and demanded an unbiased investigation into the actions of local authorities and law enforcement during these events.
