Kuala Lumpur:Sungai Dungun The once vital waterway for the local community is being revitalized as a recreational route and tourism attraction through kayaking activities in Hulu Dungun.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Che Ku Abd Rahimi Che Ku Mat Salleh, chairman of Koperasi Sejahtera Kuala Jengai Berhad, stated that the initiative organized by the cooperative is opening up economic opportunities through recreational services, with potential income benefits for the local community.

In addition to Sungai Dungun, rivers like Sungai Loh and Sungai Kelemin are also deemed suitable for kayaking. The route spans approximately 10 kilometers and takes between four to six hours to complete.

The kayaking experience not only offers a journey through a well-preserved natural environment but also educates participants about the history, community life, and notable sites along the river. This was highlighted during the Kayak Kembara Lembah Jengai 2.0 program at Laman Warisan Kuala Jengai, which saw 60 participants, including government agencies, NGOs, and tourists, kayaking from Sungai Loh to Kuala Jengai.

The program aims to promote kayaking, a recreational activity gaining popularity. Hulu Dungun is also known for hiking opportunities at Gunung Berembun, which features three waterfalls Chemerong, Berembun, and Langsir.

Participant Asmawi Alias from Kuala Berang, Hulu Terengganu, shared his positive experience, noting the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty and explore the Lembah Jengai area, learning about the community's lifestyle and the historical significance of the river. He emphasized that this activity should be expanded as it holds potential as a new recreational and tourism attraction, encouraging environmental sustainability efforts for Sungai Dungun.
