Dhaka:A five-day training program focusing on the application of forensic science in criminal investigations has commenced at the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Headquarters. The initiative aims to enhance investigators' skills in scientific crime investigation, evidence analysis, and the presentation of forensic evidence in court.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the training, titled "Application of Forensic Science in Criminal Investigations: From Crime Scene to the Courtroom," is being jointly organized by the PBI and the National University. The Institute of Forensic Science and Cyber Security, National University Bangladesh, is coordinating the program.
PBI Additional Inspector General Md Mustafa Kamal inaugurated the training and chaired the opening session, with National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Amanullah attending as the chief guest. Dr. Amanullah highlighted the global advancements in forensic science and noted that National University has introduced relevant courses through its Institute of Forensic Science and Cyber Security to bolster the field in Bangladesh. He emphasized the importance of practical education alongside theoretical learning to develop skilled graduates capable of contributing to both criminal investigations and cybersecurity issues.
Speaking at the event, PBI Chief Additional Inspector General of Police Md Mustafa Kamal acknowledged the challenges faced by investigators in applying scientific and forensic techniques. He expressed confidence that the training would enhance the knowledge and skills of PBI personnel in forensic science.
The program, attended by 30 trainees, covers topics such as the collection, preservation, and analysis of forensic evidence, scientific investigation methods, and the use of technology in investigations. It also addresses the admissibility and presentation of forensic evidence in court, aiming to provide participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for modern, science-based criminal investigations.
