Dhaka:The Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has apprehended two individuals suspected of being professional counterfeit currency dealers in possession of fake banknotes worth Tk 35 lakh during a special operation in Jatrabari.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the suspects, identified as Md. Rubel Howlader, 36, and Selina Akter alias Nasima, 58, were arrested after a tip-off led the Wari Division of the Detective Branch to conduct a raid in the Kajlarpar area under Jatrabari Police Station at approximately 8:55 pm on Saturday.
During the operation, authorities recovered 3,902 counterfeit banknotes from the suspects, all of which were intended to be circulated as legitimate currency. A case has been filed against the pair under the Special Powers Act, 1974, at Jatrabari Police Station.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the duo had been collecting counterfeit currency across various parts of Dhaka, working together to distribute the fake notes with the aim of making a profit. Following their arrests, the suspects have been sent to court.
