Barishal:A crude bomb detonated on the Dhaka-Barishal highway near the Deputy Inspector General's (Barishal Range) office in the Kashipur area of Barishal city on Wednesday afternoon.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the explosion occurred when activists of the Awami League, a group currently facing a ban on its activities, initiated an unexpected procession at around 2:15 pm, chanting "Joy Bangla" slogans. They detonated the bomb near the DIG office before fleeing the scene swiftly.
The explosion led to widespread panic among local shopkeepers and residents. Tamim, a shopkeeper in the area, recounted that over 50 people marched from the direction of Kashipur School and College, setting off the bomb near the office.
Md Anisur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Barishal Metropolitan Police, stated that police responded promptly to reports of the loud noise. Evidence of an explosion was found on the road, and authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify those responsible.
