Rajshahi: British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke has held a courtesy meeting and discussed bilateral economic relations with the Board of Directors of the Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI). The meeting was held on Thursday in the Chamber's boardroom, presided over by RCCI President Hasen Ali.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussions centered on the potential for exporting Rajshahi's jute and jute products, silk, mango, food grains, and freshwater fish to the United Kingdom. The dialogue also covered topics such as business and student visas and the development of the tourism industry.
In her speech, the British High Commissioner noted the growing appreciation and demand for Bangladeshi leather, spices, and traditional pitha in the UK market. She stated that the British High Commission is actively working on developing products from small and medium industries and marketing them in the UK. Furthermore, she emphasized the need for diversification of Rajshahi's traditional silk and jute products.
The High Commissioner also discussed plans to support Bangladesh in its agricultural sector alongside the ready-made garment sector. Meanwhile, RCCI President Hasen Ali highlighted Rajshahi's reputation as an 'education city' and sought the UK's cooperation in the education and technology sectors. He also requested that the business visa process be simplified to facilitate travel for businessmen.
