Dhaka: Ten more parliamentary standing committees on various ministries were established in Parliament on Sunday, with an additional committee being reconstituted, raising the total number of committees formed in the 13th Parliament to 36.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni presented separate proposals for the formation and reconstitution of the committees before the House at the conclusion of Sunday's session. These proposals were subsequently approved through voice votes. Of the 50 parliamentary committees in the current Parliament, 39 are ministry-related standing committees, while 11 are associated with Parliament itself.
With the formation of 10 more committees on Sunday, a total of 36 committees have been established, including 30 ministry-related standing committees. Notably, none of the newly announced committees is chaired by an opposition lawmaker. The committee on the agriculture ministry was reconstituted, appointing Md. Shahadat Hossain (Laxmipur-1) as its chairman, replacing Goyasawar Chandra Roy (Dhaka-3).
The newly constituted committees include the parliamentary standing committee on the disaster management and relief ministry, headed by Munshi Rafiqul Alam (Feni-1); the committee on local government, rural development, and cooperatives ministry, led by AKM Selim Reza Habib (Pabna-2); and the committee on the Labour and Employment Ministry, chaired by Md. Shamsur Rahman Simul Biswas (Pabna-5). Additionally, the committee on the food ministry is headed by Abdus Salam Pintu (Tangail-2); the committee on youth and sports ministry is led by Md Abul Khair Bhuiyan (Laxmipur-2); and the committee on the shipping ministry is chaired by Zainul Abdin Farroque (Naokhali-2).
The other newly established bodies include the parliamentary committee on the fisheries and livestock ministry, led by Khairul Kabir Khokon (Narsingdi-1); the committee on the primary and mass education ministry, chaired by Mahmuda Habib (Women Seat-13); the committee on cultural affairs ministry, headed by Md. Barkat Ullah Bulu (Naokhali-3); and the committee on the Chittagong Hill Tracts Ministry, led by Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan (Khagrachhari).
