Jashore: State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has announced a shift in focus towards effective learning, necessary skills, confidence, and real-life capabilities for every child, indicating that these will be prioritized over merely developing school infrastructure in primary education. "The child and his or her learning will be placed at the centre of every decision in the primary education system," Hajjaj stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Hajjaj made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at a day-long training workshop titled "Reform of Classroom Activities, Monitoring, Accountability and Administrative Structure in Bangladesh's Primary Education" held at the Jashore PTI auditorium. The minister emphasized the importance of regular monitoring and assessment to improve education quality, evaluating what children learn, the extent of their learning, and their ability to apply knowledge in real life.
Hajjaj underscored that primary education should extend beyond textbooks, announcing the introduction of a "speaking test" to evaluate children's ability to express themselves clearly and communicate with confidence. "We want a primary education system where every child will learn, be able to express themselves, and become confident for the future," he added.
Addressing teacher shortages, Hajjaj revealed that the government plans to recruit over 30,000 assistant teachers for government primary schools within the next year. The initiative aims to ensure effective classroom activities and quality education by recruiting an adequate number of qualified and skilled teachers.
The state minister reiterated the government's commitment to building an effective, quality, and child-centred primary education system, aligning with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's vision and election manifesto commitments. The programme was presided over by Jashore Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashik Hasan.
