Khulna: Khulna’s newly appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarker Omar Faruk has said crime can be effectively controlled if police, administration, journalists, teachers and people from different professions work together.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, SP Omar Faruk emphasized the necessity of public support and cooperation during an introductory meeting and exchange of views with journalists in Khulna this afternoon. He noted that the proportion of people involved in criminal activities is small compared to the general population, suggesting that a collective effort from all sections of society would make crime control more manageable.
Omar Faruk assured that the police force would strive to perform their duties with professionalism, dedication, and honesty. He urged journalists to assist the police by providing information about crimes and community issues, which he said would help in protecting public interests.
Addressing the current law and order situation in Khulna, the SP highlighted the need for the police to be more proactive in addressing crimes such as drug abuse, extortion, abduction, and murder. He expressed his commitment to improving the law and order situation through enhanced police professionalism and collaboration with the public and journalists.
The new SP also addressed concerns regarding unprofessional and unauthorized online journalism, describing it as a nationwide issue beyond Khulna. Additional SP (Traffic) Abir Siddiqui Shubhra and Additional SP, A-Circle, Saiful Islam, were present at the meeting.
