Farhad Hossain Azad Inspects Khowai River Breach in Habiganj


Habiganj: State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad today inspected the breached embankment of the Khowai River at Kaliganj area under Habiganj Sadar Upazila here. During the state minister’s visit at about 11 am, lawmaker from Habiganj-3 constituency and Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Alhaj G K Gaus, Member of Parliament from Habiganj-2 Dr. Sakhawat Hasan Jibon, Deputy Commissioner of Habiganj Dr. GM Sarfaraz, and Executive Engineer of the Water Development Board Saiful Haque were present.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the state minister stated that he visited the area following directives from the Prime Minister to seek a permanent solution to the embankment problem. He emphasized taking prompt measures to implement necessary projects to alleviate the sufferings of the people. As an immediate response, the embankment would be repaired using geo-bags.



The state minister also mentioned that various projects have been initiated to ensure that Habiganj town does not experience flooding under any circumstances. He expressed hope that work on these projects would commence immediately after the monsoon.



Meanwhile, the Khowai River water rose and breached the embankment on Sunday morning, inundating at least 30 villages. Around 50,000 people have already been displaced due to water-logging caused by the flooding.
