Dhaka: Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring free primary and emergency healthcare for all citizens, along with providing specialized treatment at affordable costs. Speaking as the chief guest at the “2nd Dhaka International Knee Summit 2026,” Dr Zahid emphasized that there will be no compromise in safeguarding the interests and rights of the people.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the summit was organized by the Bangladesh Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty Academy in collaboration with the Dhaka Arthroplasty Society and held at a hotel in the capital. Dr Zahid addressed the pressing challenges in the country’s healthcare sector, highlighting the crucial need to blend professional expertise with modern knowledge and technology for effective solutions.
“In the era of artificial intelligence (AI) and super-specialization, it will be difficult to meet the growing healthcare needs of the country without keeping pace with technological advancements,” Dr Zahid asserted. He detailed the government’s prioritization of the health sector, noting that it receives the second-highest share of the national budget.
Dr Zahid also stressed the importance of efficiently utilizing the allocated funds to ensure quality medical education and healthcare services. He called for a strengthened focus on disease prevention and the overall improvement of service delivery, underlining the government’s dedication to the health and well-being of its citizens.
