Bagerhat: A devastating fire broke out at the traditional Faltita Bazar in Fakirhat upazila of the district early today, gutting 13 shops. The fire started around 3:30 am and rapidly spread to nearby shops. Upon receiving the information, a team from Fakirhat Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the location and managed to control the blaze after nearly two hours of intensive efforts.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, among the 13 shops affected by the fire, two were sweet shops, two hotels, two grocery stores, one fast-food outlet, and several other food shops. The traders affected by the incident mentioned that they arrived at the market around 4 am after learning about the fire. They reported that both cash and goods stored inside the shops were destroyed, resulting in significant financial losses.
Md Shahjahan Mia, Station Officer-in-Charge of Fakirhat Fire Service and Civil Defence, stated that firefighters responded promptly and brought the fire under control after about two hours of effort. He indicated that the fire is initially suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit. However, a detailed investigation will determine the exact cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage.
