Dhaka: The traffic division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today filed 1,841 cases against vehicles for violating traffic rules in the capital. The cases were filed as part of the DMP’s regular enforcement campaign carried out on Tuesday (August 18) aimed at ensuring traffic discipline, reducing congestion, and improving road safety across the city, said a press release of DMP’s media and public relations division issued here today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DMP said such drives against traffic law violators will continue, urging motorists and pedestrians alike to comply with traffic regulations to help maintain order on the roads. During the campaign, the DMP traffic police dumped 581 motor vehicles and towed 333.
A media spokesperson of the DMP disclosed that the Traffic-Ramna Division filed 137 cases involving various vehicles including buses, covered vans, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and motorcycles. Similarly, the Traffic-Lalbagh Division filed 167 cases covering a range of vehicles.
Likewise, the Traffic-Motijheel Division reported 353 cases against several types of vehicles, while the Traffic-Wari Division filed 162 cases during the campaign. The Traffic-Tejgaon Division accounted for 161 cases, while Traffic-Mirpur Division registered the highest number of cases, totaling 366.
In addition, the Traffic-Uttara division recorded 287 cases, and Traffic-Gulshan Division filed 208 cases during the enforcement drive. The drives were conducted as part of the DMP’s ongoing efforts to enforce traffic laws and ensure discipline on the city’s roads, the DMP release added.
