Khulna: Khulna-4 lawmaker Azizul Bari Helal today emphasized the crucial role of the fisheries sector in bolstering the national economy and addressing the nutritional needs of the population. He urged the adoption of modern technology, conservation of water bodies, and sustainable management of fisheries resources to enhance fish production.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Helal made these remarks at the inauguration of National Fisheries Fortnight-2026 held in Dighalia upazila this afternoon. The event is being observed under the slogan, "A Self-Reliant Country through Silver Fish, Bangladesh First." The inauguration and subsequent discussion took place at the Dighalia Upazila Parishad auditorium at 4 pm, presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sujan Das Gupta.
During the event, speakers underscored the importance of further developing the fisheries sector, increasing fish production, conserving indigenous fish species, and improving the livelihoods of fishermen. The program was attended by officials from the upazila administration and fisheries department, public representatives, fish farmers, fishermen, and other stakeholders.
