Dhaka: Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam expressed optimism for enhancing the existing friendship and defence collaboration between Bangladesh and Canada. This statement was made during a courtesy visit by Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Ajit Singh, at the Armed Forces Division (AFD) office located at Dhaka Cantonment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting between Brigadier General Islam and High Commissioner Singh included an exchange of pleasantries and a reflection on the longstanding cordial relations between the two nations. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate released a statement this afternoon highlighting the discussions about potential Canadian cooperation in modernizing and building the capacity of the Bangladesh Armed Forces.
The dialogue covered various areas for potential cooperation, including military technology exchange, strategic defence collaboration, joint training programs, disaster management, and peacekeeping operations. Both parties expressed positive views on strengthening these aspects, aiming to further bolster the existing defence and diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and Canada, as indicated by the ISPR.
