Dhaka: Three villages in the country are being developed as 'SDG Villages', including Mitingachhari village in Chandraghona Union under Kaptai Upazila of the district. The other two villages embarking on this transformative journey are Pankhali in Dakop Upazila of Khulna and Nofangar in Bochaganj Upazila of Dinajpur.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to inaugurate Mitingachhari village as an 'SDG Village' on August 10. On the same day, he will also virtually inaugurate the development initiatives for the two other villages. The initiative is a strategic move to implement the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aims to address critical issues such as poverty alleviation, waterlogging prevention, and improving healthcare services among others.
Visiting Mitingachhari village this morning ahead of the inauguration ceremony, Kaptai Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Rayhanul Islam emphasized the special focus on ensuring quality education, reducing child and maternal mortality rates, and expanding access to clean water and sanitation facilities. The initiative will also promote women's empowerment, use of renewable energy, environmental conservation, and tree plantation, along with agricultural and livelihood development. Additionally, there will be an expansion of digital services and technology to support these goals.
During the visit to Mitingachhari village, several local dignitaries were present, including Upazila Assistant Information Officer Md. Delwar Hossain, Upazila BNP General Secretary Yasin Mamun, and Headman of Ward No. 100 Arun Talukdar, who expressed optimism about the positive changes this initiative will bring to their community.
