Dhaka: A mobile court fined a sweets shop in Rajshahi city Tk 15,000 for producing and selling yogurt and sweets without approval from the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and for violating product labeling regulations on Thursday. The operation targeted Shamim Sweets, located near the Saheb Bazar Boro Mosque, as part of an initiative by the Rajshahi Divisional Office of BSTI.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the mobile court discovered that Shamim Sweets was producing and marketing yogurt and sweets without the necessary BSTI certification. Additionally, the shop was found selling packaged products that lacked essential information on the labels, such as manufacturing and expiry dates, which is a violation of regulations.
The operation was led by Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md. Shahriar Islam Nasif from the Rajshahi District Administration. Engineer Junaid Ahmed from the Certification Marks Wing of the BSTI Rajshahi Divisional Office prosecuted the case. Members of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police provided assistance during the drive.
