Dhaka: Khulna Development Authority (KDA) Chairman Advocate SM Shafiqul Alam Mona today emphasized that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has placed significant importance on environmental protection and planned urbanization nationwide. Speaking at separate tree plantation programs in Khulna, he highlighted that tree plantation is more than just a ceremonial or government initiative; it is a national movement aimed at safeguarding the environment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mona mentioned that the KDA is actively supporting the Prime Minister's ambitious program to plant 250 million trees over a span of five years. He urged individuals from all sectors to engage in tree plantation efforts to combat the adverse impacts of climate change and to help lower the rising temperatures affecting the Khulna region.
He further stressed that planting saplings alone is insufficient, urging everyone to ensure proper care and maintenance of the trees to maintain ecological balance. The KDA chairman inaugurated tree plantation drives organized by the Khulna city unit of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal along the Khulna-Koia Road and by Ward No. 22 Jubo Dal at Abu Sufian Madrasa premises in Notun Bazar.
Mona called for a collective effort involving grassroots communities and farmers to create a greener and more prosperous Bangladesh. Leaders and activists of the Krishak Dal participated in the roadside plantation initiative, while Khulna city Jubo Dal Convener Abdul Aziz Sumon and Member Secretary Robiul Islam Rubel, among others, attended the second program.
The event concluded with a special prayer, seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of former President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, and younger son Arafat Rahman Koko. The prayer also sought peace, prosperity, and welfare for the country and the people of the Khulna region.
