Dhaka: Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain announced that dengue corners are being established at upazila health complexes nationwide as part of the government's strategy to tackle the disease in the upcoming season. 'We do not want to waste any time. We are making all-out preparation to combat dengue,' he stated during a meeting on dengue preparedness at his ministry.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the minister mentioned that a field hospital is prepared at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital premises to provide treatment for dengue patients. He assured that more field hospitals could be established in different regions if necessary. The Bangladesh Society of Medicine is set to provide comprehensive training, including treatment protocols. UNICEF and several other organizations are also supporting these initiatives.
Minister Sakhawat emphasized that starting Tuesday, doctors and nurses will receive training across all seven divisions outside Dhaka, as well as in various districts throughout the country. Essential supplies, such as reagents, testing kits, and fluid saline, are already stocked, with plans to procure additional supplies based on demand.
Addressing mosquito breeding grounds, the minister stated that efforts with city corporations began two months ago. The meeting also reviewed the launch of a mobile application focused on dengue, as noted in a PID handout. State Minister for Health Dr MA Muhit, Additional Secretary ATM Saiful Islam, and Director General of the Directorate General of Health Service Prof Pravath Chandra Biswas were among the attendees.
