Sonagazi: Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo today emphasized the indispensable role of sports and cultural activities in combating drug abuse and juvenile gang culture in the country. Addressing the closing ceremony of a football tournament organized by Angels Club at Nawabpur BC Laha High School and College, Mintoo highlighted the societal issues stemming from the previous government’s corruption and called for proactive involvement from parents, teachers, and community leaders to address these challenges.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mintoo detailed the government’s efforts through the Notun Kuri Sports Programme, which aims to encourage youth participation in sports and cultural activities. He expressed hope that such initiatives would foster both psychological and physical development among children and adolescents. Mintoo also underscored the importance of educational institutions motivating students to engage in these activities alongside their academic studies, while also providing moral education.
The event, chaired by the former President of Angels Club and Nawabpur Union Parishad Chairman Zahirul Alam Zahir, saw attendance from local leaders of BNP and its associate bodies, dignitaries, and sports personalities. A total of 14 teams from various parts of the district competed in the tournament, culminating in a thrilling final match where Biye Bari Sherwani emerged victorious against Tulatuli XI with a 4-3 win in the tiebreakers. Thousands of spectators from the surrounding areas gathered to enjoy the match.
