Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has asserted that both society and the current state structure have not yet evolved to a point where creative individuals or artistes receive the recognition and respect they truly deserve. However, he emphasized that the newly elected government is intent on ensuring that artistes gain their rightful esteem, and is committed to shaping a supportive state structure to achieve this goal.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Swapon made these remarks while serving as the chief guest at an event titled ‘An Evening of Music and Dance,’ organized by Artist Club Limited at a city hotel. During his address, he highlighted that becoming an artiste is not merely a result of personal decision or effort but is largely an innate quality bestowed by nature. Swapon stressed that everyone engaged in creative expression can be considered an artiste, as nature itself determines who possesses the intrinsic qualities necessary for artistry, with practice and
achievement completing the process.

The minister further pledged unwavering support for artistes, stating that the government remains highly positive toward promoting the arts. Swapon’s commitment reflects the current government’s philosophy, which aims to advance the position of artistes in society.

The event featured a vibrant cultural ceremony with a combined performance by renowned singer Sujit Mustafa and celebrated dancer Munmun Ahmed, which captivated the audience. In recognition of his contributions, Artist Club awarded Minister Swapon honorary membership and presented him with a symbolic key. The event was chaired by Artist Club Limited President Sujit Mustafa, with General Secretary Maruf Kabir also addressing the gathering. Various artistic groups and distinguished personalities were present to celebrate the occasion.
