Satkhira: The government has revised passenger fares for inland water transport services across the country, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Shipping today. Under the new rate, fare for the first 100 kilometres has been increased from Tk 2.77 to Tk 2.95 per kilometre per passenger. For distances above 100 kilometres, the fare has been raised from Tk 2.38 to Tk 2.52 per kilometre per passenger. The minimum fare has also been increased from Tk 29 to Tk 32 per passenger.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the revision in fare structure aims to address the operational costs of inland water transport services and ensure improved service delivery. The Ministry of Shipping has emphasized the need for this adjustment to maintain the sustainability of water transport services, which are crucial for connectivity in many parts of the country.

The decision to revise the fares comes in the wake of rising fuel prices and other operational expenses, which have put a strain on transport operators. The government believes that the revised fares will help maintain the quality and safety of water transport services, benefiting passengers who rely on these services for daily commutes and travel.

The Ministry of Shipping has urged passengers to cooperate with the new fare structure and assured that the additional revenue generated will be utilized to enhance the infrastructure and facilities of inland water transport. The notification has been circulated to all relevant authorities to ensure smooth implementation and compliance with the new fare structure across the country.
