Dhaka: The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved three modernization projects under the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB). The approval was granted during the 20th meeting of the CCGP this year, held at the Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury presiding.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a significant focus of the meeting was on the power sector, particularly the ongoing modernization programme under the ‘Modernization and Capacity Enhancement of BREB’s Electrical Distribution System (Dhaka-Mymensingh Division) (1st Revised)’ project. As part of this initiative, the committee approved three substantial turnkey packages that involve the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of new 33/11 KV AIS substations, along with associated land development work.

Under Package No. MCEP/BREB/DMD-W-3 (Lot-3), approval was given for the construction of eight new substations at a cost of approximately Tk 117.67 crore. The contract for this package was awarded to the Consortium of EEL and FHL, Bangladesh. Additionally, under Package No. MCEP/BREB/DMD-W-3 (Lot-4), the committee approved the establishment of six new substations at a cost of around Tk 90.74 crore, with the contract awarded to Reverie Power and Automation Engineering Ltd.

Furthermore, under Package No. MCEP/BREB/DMD-W-2 (Lot-3), the committee also approved the creation of four new substations, estimated to cost Tk 77.61 crore. The contract for this work was similarly awarded to Reverie Power and Automation Engineering Ltd. Officials highlighted that these initiatives are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance and modernize the electricity distribution infrastructure in the Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions, with the aim of improving service reliability and expanding grid capacity.
