Bogura: Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam announced that Bogura would be developed into a major aviation hub, unlocking the economic and aviation potential of the northern region. The minister made these remarks during a visit to Bogura Airport, accompanied by State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat and State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shah Alam, as stated in an official handout.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Khanam emphasized that the initiative to transform Bogura into a leading aviation center is directed by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, aiming to utilize the vast economic and strategic potential of the northern region. She noted that the people of Bogura are fortunate to be the starting point of the government’s extensive aviation development program.
State Minister Millat disclosed plans to construct an international-standard airport in Bogura, featuring a 10,500-foot runway and modern cargo facilities. These developments will aid in the transportation of agricultural produce, industrial goods, and export commodities from the northern region. He added that the infrastructure would enhance trade, connectivity, and economic activities while strengthening the country’s aviation sector.
As part of the broader development initiative, the government is also working on expanding the airport by establishing a pilot training academy and cargo handling facilities. This expansion is expected to open new opportunities in communication, commerce, and aviation in northern Bangladesh.
The visit was attended by other notable figures including the Chief of Air Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force Hasan Mahmood Khan, Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Fahmida Akhtar, senior ministry officials, and airport authorities.
