Dhaka: Mobile phone operator Robi Axiata has reported robust financial results for the first quarter of 2026, recording a Profit After Tax of TK 232.3 crore, with a margin of 9.2 percent.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the company saw its revenue rise to TK 2,531.2 crore in Q1, marking an 8.1 percent increase from the previous year. The earnings per share experienced a significant surge of 85.2 percent year-on-year to TK 0.44, as stated in the operator’s media release during the announcement of its quarterly financial update.

Robi’s Managing Director and CEO, Ziad Shatara, expressed satisfaction with the company’s performance, attributing the year-on-year growth to their AI-driven personalized product and service offers, alongside sustained investment in network enhancements, even amidst challenging socio-economic conditions intensified by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

The CEO highlighted that the company’s disciplined approach to cost management and investment planning has yielded a healthy profit for shareholders in Q1’26. Ziad Shatara also expressed optimism about maintaining this performance as the economic climate improves.

The statement revealed that the company’s capital expenditure (CAPEX) for Q1’26 amounted to TK 349.5 crore. During the same period, Robi’s total payment to the Government exchequer reached TK 2,073.6 crore, which constituted 82 percent of the total revenue for the quarter.

Robi reported an active subscriber base of 5.74 crore in Q1’26, with data and 4G subscriber bases at 4.45 crore and 4.03 crore, respectively. Data usage per user averaged 8.95 GB per month, a 15.4 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The company’s Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) reached TK 1,350.3 crore, with a margin of 53.3 percent in Q1’26. The YoY EBITDA growth of 21.6 percent underscores the effectiveness of Robi’s cost management strategies.

The year-on-year EBITDA margin improved by 5.9 percentage points, while network milestones saw over 19,300 4G sites by the end of Q1’26, achieving 98.98 percent population coverage.

Despite a slight quarterly revenue dip of 2.1 percent compared to the previous quarter, primarily due to fewer calendar days, average data usage by Robi network users grew by 6.1 percent quarter-on-quarter. Additionally, EBITDA experienced a 4.3 percent growth with the EBITDA margin increasing by 3.3 percentage points compared to the last quarter.
