Rajshahi: An initiative has been launched to establish a carp polyculture demonstration farm in Paba upazila of Rajshahi, aimed at increasing fish production, expanding technology adoption, and encouraging farmers to use modern methods. As part of the “Technology Service Expansion Project at Union Level (3rd Phase)” for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, necessary fish farming inputs were distributed among four fish farmers in the upazila.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event, organized by the Upazila Fisheries Office, was presided over by Paba Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ibnul Abedin. He emphasized that carp polyculture is a profitable and sustainable fish production method. By farming different species of fish in the same pond, it is possible to increase production. Such demonstrations are expected to encourage farmers to adopt new technology.

The distributed inputs included one aerator, 32 kg of lime, one rotenone, and one signboard. Officials highlighted that these inputs will enable farmers to manage ponds scientifically, playing an important role in increasing fish growth and production.

Present at the event were Abdur Razzak, Member Secretary of Paba Upazila BNP; Sultan Ahmed, Joint Convener; Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Wali Ullah Mollah; Field Assistant Takir Hossain; and other local dignitaries. They expressed hope that this initiative will bring positive change to the fisheries sector in the area.

Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Wali Ullah Mollah noted that establishing carp polyculture demonstrations provides opportunities for hands-on field training, which is highly effective for ordinary farmers. This allows them to easily learn new technology and management methods, applying them to their own farms. He believes such initiatives not only increase production but also help strengthen the rural economy. He added that more farmers will receive similar support in the future, boosting domestic fish production.
