Sirajganj: A mobile court here today has seized 230 packets of government allocated jute seeds and fined two persons for possessing the seeds illegally. Acting on a tip-off, the mobile court conducted the raid at Kazipur upazila and successfully seized the jute seeds.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the mobile court detained Abdus Salam, a block supervisor from Charburungi village, and Golai, a shopkeeper from Bhanudanga village. Both individuals were fined for their illegal possession of the seeds and later released after the fines were paid.
Kazipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Mostafizur Rahman reported that Abdus Salam was fined Taka 50,000 while Golai was fined Taka 40,000 under the Seed Act, 2018. In default of payment, they would have faced one month of imprisonment each. However, both individuals paid the fines on the spot and provided written assurances that they would not repeat such offences in the future.
