UK Wants to See Peaceful, Democratic, Prosperous Bangladesh

Narayanganj: British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke has articulated the United Kingdom’s intention to work closely with the new government and the citizens of Bangladesh on shared priorities as the country progresses. She emphasized the significance of a peaceful, democratic, and prosperous Bangladesh while speaking at an Iftar reception at her residence.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the UK currently serves as the global co-chair of the Media Freedom Coalition. One of its main priorities is to support a free and independent media, alongside the protection of human rights, which are essential foundations of any functioning democracy. Sarah Cooke highlighted the importance of these commitments, especially in a world that is becoming increasingly turbulent and fragmented.

The British High Commission stated its aim to support viable, public-interest journalism and assist societies in navigating both the opportunities and risks posed by new technologies. Additionally, they intend to addre
ss the unique challenges faced by women journalists.
