Islamnagar: A female student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) was found dead today at her rented residence in the Islamnagar area adjacent to the university campus. The deceased was identified as Sharmin Jahan Khadija, a student of the Department of Public Administration from the 2021-22 academic session of the university.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, witnesses reported that Sharmin was discovered lying on the floor in a bloodied condition with visible injury marks on her head. It was learned that her husband, Fahim, returned home between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm to find the front door locked from outside. With the landlord’s assistance, he entered through the back door and found Sharmin lying unconscious with injuries on various parts of her body.
She was immediately taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, where the on-duty doctors declared her dead. Fahim stated that they had planned to travel to Dhaka in the morning to purchase a mobile phone together. However, he went alone because Sharmin was feeling unwell due to low blood pressure. He attempted to contact her multiple times from Dhaka but received no response. Sharmin’s mother also tried to reach her without success.
Fahim further mentioned that Sharmin’s mobile phone and laptop were missing from the house, and their packed luggage was scattered inside the room. JU Proctor Professor Dr. AKM Rashidul Alam stated, “The body has been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for autopsy.” He emphasized that the university administration has requested law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and take necessary action.
Officer-in-Charge of Ashulia Police Station Rubel Hawlader confirmed that police are at the scene, and officials from the Detective Branch (DB) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have been asked to assist in the investigation.
