Dhaka: Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan today stated that the War of Liberation stands as the most significant and glorious achievement in Bangladesh’s extensive history. He affirmed his commitment to uphold the spirit of the War of Liberation in all ministry activities.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister expressed these sentiments during a morning meeting with ministry officials and employees. He emphasized that the 1971 Liberation War is not merely a historical event but a vital symbol of Bangladesh’s identity and pride. Consequently, he declared that all activities within the ministry would be guided by the ideals and values of the Liberation War.

During the meeting, when ministry officials attempted to greet the newly appointed minister with flowers, he courteously declined and expressed his gratitude. Azam explained that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman discourages spending money on formalities like flower exchanges, which he considers unnecessary. He cited studies showing that around Taka 18 crore is spent annually on flowers for ceremonial purposes, which he labeled as excessive.

The minister stressed the importance of setting an economical example by avoiding such expenditures. Despite being new to his role, he expressed his intention to make the ministry’s activities more dynamic, relying on the cooperation of experienced officials and employees. He called on the staff to work with dedication, professionalism, and patriotism.

Liberation War Affairs Secretary Ishrat Chowdhury and senior ministry officials attended the meeting. They pledged their full support in implementing the ministry’s activities and committed to working together to maintain the spirit of the War of Liberation.
