Dhaka: Labour and Employment and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury announced today that construction on the Dhaka-Sylhet and Sylhet-Chattogram six-lane highways is set to commence soon. “The Prime Minister is aware of the matter and necessary instructions have already been given to the concerned authorities to expedite the process,” he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks while addressing a doa and iftar mahfil organized by the Sylhet District Administration. Addressing the law and order situation, he noted that the temporary issues in Sylhet have been stabilized through collective efforts. Furthermore, in preparation for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, law enforcement agencies have been directed to intensify their activities to ensure stability.
Highlighting Sylhet’s significance as a tourist destination, the minister emphasized the importance of maintaining smooth road communication during Eid-ul-Fitr. He mentioned that essential facilities, including toilets, restrooms, and safe drinking water, will be available at key tourist spots. Additionally, security measures will be increased to ensure visitor safety.
Later in the event, Minister Ariful distributed Eid gifts to the families of July Uprising fighters at the Circuit House, an initiative by the Sylhet District Administration. He paid tribute to journalist Abu Turab, who was martyred during the July Uprising, acknowledging that the sacrifices made during the movement are memorable and deeply respected by the government.
The event was attended by senior civil and police officials, political leaders, professionals, family members of July martyrs, and journalists.
