Dhaka: BNP lawmaker Nurul Islam Moni MP from Bagura-2 constituency has been appointed as the chief whip of the 13th national parliament. A gazette notification was issued by the National Parliament Secretariat on Monday, as per the order of the President, confirming Moni’s new role in the legislative assembly.
According to United News of Bangladesh, alongside Moni’s appointment, six additional MPs have been designated as whips through separate gazette notifications. The newly appointed whips include G K Gaus from Habiganj-3, Rakibul Islam Bakul from Khulna-3, Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu from Shariatpur-3, M Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu from Natore-2, Akhtaruzzaman Mia from Dinajpur-4, and ABM Ashraf Uddin Nizan from Lakshmipur-4.
Nurul Islam’s political journey began when he was elected as an independent MP from Barguna-2 in the 1988 and 1991 parliamentary elections. Following the 1991 elections, he joined the BNP and was subsequently elected as an MP with the party’s nomination in 2001. He successfully retained his seat in the most recent election, reinforcing his standing within the party and the parliament.
