Dhaka: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Humaiun Kobir, emphasized on Monday the government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare and safety of Bangladeshi citizens amid the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East. Speaking at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kobir assured that the government would take all necessary actions to protect its nationals.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Kobir addressed reporters following an inter-ministerial meeting, highlighting that the safety of Bangladeshis is of utmost importance. He confirmed the government’s full support for their welfare and protection, urging all parties to pursue diplomatic solutions to deescalate the situation.
The meeting was attended by key figures, including Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed, and representatives from various departments, including Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared updates on casualties, reporting that two Bangladeshi nationals have died, and seven others have been injured due to missile and drone attacks in the region.
In the UAE, Bangladeshi national Saleh Ahmed from Baralekha, Sylhet, perished in Ajman following an aerial attack on a civilian installation. The Bangladesh Embassy is coordinating with local authorities to facilitate the repatriation of his remains once flights resume.
In Bahrain, one Bangladeshi national was killed, and three others were injured in recent attacks. The Bangladesh Mission in Manama is actively engaged with local authorities for assistance.
In Kuwait, four Bangladeshi nationals sustained injuries from a drone attack near the civilian airport. All have received medical treatment and are stable. The Bangladesh Embassy in Kuwait maintains regular contact with them, with the Ambassador personally visiting them in the hospital.
Additionally, the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation vessel, Banglar Joyjatra, is stranded at Jebel Ali Port in the UAE. The Embassy is in communication with the vessel’s captain, and all crew members are reported to be safe.
The government of Bangladesh continues to express deep concern over the escalating situation in the Middle East and is closely monitoring developments.
