Dhaka: Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher today declared that there will be no shelter for corrupt individuals within the ministry. Emphasizing accountability, he stated, ‘Proper utilization of public taxpayers’ money must be ensured, and development projects must be completed within the stipulated time while maintaining quality standards. If any negligence in duty is proven, those responsible will face punishment.’
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Taher made these remarks during a views-exchange meeting with officials from various departments and agencies under the ministry at the Public Works Department conference room in Segunbagicha. The meeting was attended by officials from the Public Works Department, Department of Architecture, National Housing Authority, and Urban Development Directorate. State Minister Ahammad Sohel Monzoor and Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam were also present.
Addressing the officials, Minister Taher assured them that any political pressure faced during their duties would be managed by the ministry itself. He urged them to carry out their responsibilities within the framework of the country’s existing laws, to cite the law in cases of illegality, and to learn to say ‘no’ when necessary. ‘Work fearlessly and with integrity,’ he encouraged.
The minister also touched on housing for middle- and lower-income people in Dhaka, suggesting that if everyone collectively adopts constructive thinking and effective initiatives for the country’s welfare, it could lead to improved living standards.
State Minister Ahammad Sohel Monzoor advised the officials to perform their duties without fear, urging a forward-thinking approach. ‘We must work responsibly to build the Bangladesh of tomorrow, leaving behind the mindset of the past. There is no opportunity to embezzle the hard-earned tax money of the people without working. Our government’s position on corruption and nepotism is clear-zero tolerance,’ he asserted.
During the meeting, heads of the respective departments presented their ongoing activities and future work plans.
