Chattogram: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar has called on the government to halt post-election violence and take effective measures to promote political tolerance for the betterment of Bangladesh. Professor Mia Golam Parwar made the call as the chief guest at an Iftar Mahfil hosted by the Chattogram City Jamaat Islami to honor distinguished individuals at the GEC Convention Center in the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Parwar emphasized the need to establish a new Bangladesh by moving away from the violent events that occurred during the student and people’s revolution in July. He stressed the importance of fostering a culture of tolerance and acceptance in politics, illustrating his point with an analogy by the Ameer Jamaat, who compared the government party and the opposition party to two wheels of a bicycle, highlighting the necessity of coordination between them for democratic progress.
Expressing deep concern, Mia Golam Parwar lamented the surge in intolerance and violence following the elections, citing incidents where winners attacked and set fire to the homes of losers and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists. He described these actions as unacceptable and shared details of a brutal attack on Jamaat leaders and activists in Jibannagar, Chuadanga, which resulted in one death and several injuries.
The Secretary General noted that in the two constituencies where Jamaat-e-Islami emerged victorious in Chuadanga, a peaceful and safe environment was maintained. However, he pointed out that elsewhere, winners have been targeting Jamaat leaders and activists. He called for the cessation of violence before the National Parliament session, emphasizing that the vision of a new Bangladesh, achieved through the sacrifices of youth, will remain unfulfilled if violence continues.
The event was chaired by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Committee member and Chattogram City Ameer Mohammad Nazrul Islam, with City Jammat Secretary Principal Mohammad Nurul Amin serving as the moderator. Notable figures in attendance included City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Abu Sufian, MP, Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Mohammad Shahjahan, and Central Working Committee Member Alhaj Shahjahan Chowdhury MP, as well as IIUC Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Ali Azadi, Pro-VC Dr. Professor Hasmat Ali, and Port City University Vice Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Tayyab Chowdhury.
