Dhaka: BNP is confident of forming a new government by winning more than two-thirds of seats in the 13th national general elections, spokesman of the party’s Central Election Steering Committee and BNP Chairman’s Adviser Mahdi Amin has said. He made this statement while speaking at a press conference at the BNP Election Steering Committee office in Gulshan here on Thursday night.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahdi Amin stated that BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has already won unofficially in both constituencies-Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17-from which he contested. He alleged that since Wednesday night, BNP’s opponent has been involved in various types of fraud, forgery, and offenses, including capturing polling centres.

Mahdi Amin emphasized that despite these challenges, with the support of the people, the candidates of the ‘Paddy Sheaf’ are leading by a significant margin in many seats, with several already unofficially elected. He expressed confidence that BNP, bolstered by public support, will form the government by securing more than two-thirds of the seats.

He further noted that on election day, various incidents of fraud, forgery, and violence occurred across the country. He highlighted that election engineering was aimed at ensuring certain candidates won specific seats, mentioning that in Dhaka city alone, vote counting and result declarations were deliberately delayed in several seats, including Dhaka-8, Dhaka-11, Dhaka-13, and Dhaka-16.

The spokesperson criticized a certain political party for spreading propaganda and violating the electoral code of conduct to minimize BNP’s victory margin. He indicated that such election engineering might have reduced the margin of defeat in certain seats and affected voter participation nationwide.

Mahdi Amin extended his congratulations to the democratic people for their enthusiasm and support for their preferred candidates. Present at the press conference were Professor Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel, election management committee member Jubair Babu, BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan, Shamsuddin Didar, and Chhatra Dal central president Rakibul Islam Rakib.
