Islami Andolan Candidate Vows to Establish Justice-Based Social System in Bogura-5

Dhaka: Mir Mahmudur Rahman, Islami Andolan candidate for the Bogura-5 (Sherpur-Dhunat) constituency, has said that his primary objective is to establish a justice-based social system. Bogura-5 is considered a highly significant seat among the seven in Bogura due to its economic and geographical importance. Historically dominated by BNP and Awami League, the fall of the Awami League in 2024 has created a new electoral equation for the 13th national parliamentary election, where Mir Mahmudur Rahman appears to have a strong position.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in an exclusive interview, Mir Mahmudur Rahman shared his vision and expectations regarding the upcoming polls. When asked about his election pledges for local voters, he emphasized that the core goal of his politics is to establish a justice-based social system. Islami Andolan will focus on ensuring the moral development of the people in the area, creating a corruption-free administration, and protecting fundamental rights.



Regarding the electoral code of conduct, Mir Mahmudur Rahman stated that Islami Andolan always believes in decent and peaceful politics. He affirmed that their activists have strict instructions to conduct their campaign while strictly adhering to the Election Commission’s code of conduct. On the topic of the referendum regarding the “July Charter,” he noted that public participation should be present in significant state decisions, emphasizing that the referendum must be fair and free from any influence.



Discussing his expectations for the upcoming parliamentary election, Mir Mahmudur Rahman expressed his hope for an acceptable and neutral election where people can cast their votes without fear. He highlighted that it is the policy of Islami Andolan to respect the verdict of the people.



A total of five candidates are contesting the Bogura-5 seat: G.M. Siraj (BNP), Dabibur Rahman (Jamaat-e-Islami), Mir Md. Mahmudur Rahman (Islami Andolon), Shipon Kumar Rabidas (CPB), and Khan Kudrat E Saklain (LDP). The constituency features 188 polling centers with a total of 1,023 booths, comprising 997 permanent and 26 temporary ones.



In Sherpur Upazila, there are 306,841 voters, including 149,862 males, 156,976 females, and 3 third-gender (Hijra) voters. In Dhunat Upazila, 265,499 voters are expected to exercise their rights, comprising 131,425 males, 134,071 females, and 3 third-gender (Hijra) voters.
