Dhaka: Biman Bangladesh Airlines today expanded the use of body-worn cameras in baggage handling at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to enhance transparency, protect passengers’ property, and ensure accountability across all incoming international flights. The national flag carrier stated that this decision aligns with international aviation safety and security protocols, which allow airport authorities to inspect baggage without prior consent to remove prohibited or contraband items.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Biman Bangladesh Airlines noted that passengers often blame the airline or the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh for baggage damage occurring during such security checks. Additionally, there are ongoing allegations regarding the involvement of unscrupulous groups in some incidents. To address these concerns, the airline has begun monitoring the loading and unloading of baggage for every arriving international flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport through body-worn cameras.

Biman has been utilizing body-worn cameras for baggage delivery operations on its own flights since June 2024. Officials mentioned that the positive outcomes from this practice led to the expansion of the system to all international airlines receiving Biman’s ground handling services. The formal inauguration of the expanded service took place on Sunday, led by Badrul Hasan Liton, Director (Customer Service) and Joint Secretary of Biman.

Speaking at the inauguration, the director emphasized that the initiative would ensure transparency and accountability at every stage of baggage handling, enhance passenger confidence, and further boost staff professionalism. Biman Bangladesh Airlines also announced its commitment to continue using digital technology to elevate passenger service and security standards in the future.
