Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has announced the formation of a law and order and disinformation monitoring cell to operate for seven days during the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and the referendum.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the monitoring cell will work to prevent the impact and spread of disinformation, with technologically capable forces or agencies providing necessary information and technical support to the Election Commission. This initiative is part of a broader effort outlined in an EC circular issued today, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a peaceful and normal law and order situation to ensure the elections are free, fair, and peaceful.

The monitoring cell will comprise representatives from the Election Commission, ministries, divisions, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), and other relevant forces and agencies. Initially, the cell will be limited in size, but it will operate at full capacity for seven days, covering the period four days before polling, the polling day itself, and two days following the polling.
