Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today called upon the countrymen to observe the Martyred Intellectuals Day on December 14 and the Victory Day on December 16 with due dignity, solemnity and respect. In a statement, the Jamaat chief described these days as eternal symbols of sacrifice, struggle, and glory in the history of the nation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Jamaat chief expressed profound respect and gratitude towards the martyred intellectuals and heroic freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence and sovereignty, praying for the eternal peace of their souls. He urged citizens and party members to commemorate these national days through discussions, rallies, and prayers, reaffirming the commitment to safeguarding the country's independence and sovereignty and establishing people's rights.
Rahman emphasized Jamaat's respect for the valiant freedom fighters who participated in the 1971 Liberation War. He also prayed for the salvation of those martyred during the July Uprising and conveyed sympathy to their families, wishing for the speedy recovery of the injured. He noted the observance of these days comes as the nation moves past a period of misrule and strives for peace and stability amidst economic challenges.
The Jamaat ameer alleged that domestic and foreign allies of fascism were still active, attempting to destabilize the country through conspiracies. He cited the attack on Inquilab Mancha leader Sharif Osman Hadi on December 12 as an example, urging national unity against anti-national plots.
Rahman extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of the Great Victory Day, wishing for the country's overall happiness, prosperity, and welfare. Jamaat announced a three-day program to mark these events, including a discussion at the Krishibid Institution Hall on December 14, another at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) on December 15, and a youth marathon at Suhrawardy Udyan on December 16.
