Rangpur: A freedom fighter and his wife were found dead at their home this morning at Uttar Rahimapur village of Kursha Union under Taraganj upazila of the district. 'The deceased were identified as veteran freedom fighter Yogesh Chandra Roy, 75, and his wife Surbana Roy, 60,' Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Taraganj Police Station M A Faruk told BSS.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, neighbors climbed a ladder and entered the house on Sunday morning after receiving no response to their knocking. Inside, they discovered the body of Yogesh Chandra Roy in the dining room and Surbana Roy in the kitchen. The police, alerted by the neighbors, arrived promptly to recover the bodies.
Local residents revealed that Yogesh Chandra Roy was a teacher by profession and had retired as the headmaster of a government primary school in 2017. The couple's two sons, Shoven Chandra Roy and Rajesh Khanna Chandra Roy, are currently serving in the Bangladesh Police at Joypurhat and Dhaka, respectively.
Rangpur Superintendent of Police Md Marufat Hussain, Taraganj upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Monabbar Hossain, Muktijoddha Commander Ali Hossain, and OC of Taraganj Police Station M A Faruk have all visited the scene. Police suspect that the victims were killed by a strike to the head, and an investigation is ongoing to uncover the details surrounding the incident.
The OC noted that the autopsy is underway and no case had been filed as of 2 pm today.
