Dhaka: Non-resident ambassador of Azerbaijan to Bangladesh, Elchin Huseynli, announced that Azerbaijan is preparing to open an embassy in Dhaka after the upcoming general election in Bangladesh. The announcement was made during a meeting when Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva, daughters of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, met Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Chief Adviser's Press Wing stated that this decision follows a request made by the Chief Adviser to President Aliyev last November. An embassy in Dhaka is expected to elevate bilateral relations to new heights. During the meeting, discussions centered on deepening cultural, environmental, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
The Chief Adviser reminisced about his visits to Baku and his meeting with President Aliyev at the COP29 summit last year. He stressed the importance of bolstering trade, energy, and economic ties between Bangladesh and Azerbaijan. Leyla Aliyeva, Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, conveyed President Aliyev's greetings to the Chief Adviser and emphasized the need for enhanced environmental cooperation, particularly in wildlife protection.
This visit marked the first time the daughters of the Azerbaijani President visited Bangladesh. During their stay, Leyla and Arzu Aliyeva visited a local institution supporting orphans and children without parental care. They expressed interest in implementing joint humanitarian, social, youth, volunteer, environmental, and nature-protection projects with Bangladeshi organizations, in collaboration with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the IDEA Public Union. Lamiya Morshed, SDG Coordinator and Senior Secretary, was also present at the meeting.
