Dhaka: Powerhouse Iran registered their third successive win in the 2nd Women's Kabaddi World Cup, beating Zanzibar 51-15 at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in the capital today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Iran, the runners-up of the inaugural edition, had previously secured dominant victories in their first two matches against Poland and Kenya. Iran set the tone early in the match by pressuring Zanzibar from the outset. They achieved their first all-out against Zanzibar just 11 minutes into the game, leading with 20 points compared to Zanzibar's one. By halftime, Iran had established a commanding 28-3 lead.
Zanzibar faced another all-out early in the second half, with the match score reaching 35-8. The African nation was all-out a total of three times during the match, with the third all-out occurring just three minutes before the final whistle. Iran maintained their dominance, leading 45-13, and ultimately concluded the match with a decisive 51-15 victory.
After the match, Iran's captain Asma Fakhri expressed her satisfaction with the team's performance, stating, "We are very happy to achieve our third consecutive win. We're delighted to be able to come to Bangladesh to play this World Cup. Our team is formed by a mix of experienced and young players; our coach has formed the team that way." She also praised the arrangements for the World Cup in Bangladesh, expressing surprise and appreciation for the well-organized event.
