Chittagong: Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has signed a 22-year concession agreement with Switzerland-based Medlog, a prominent global institution in internal logistics, for the operation and management of the Pangaon Internal Container Terminal (PITC). The signing ceremony was held today at the Hotel Intercontinental in the city, said a press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was graced by the presence of Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hussain, who attended as the chief guest. Rear Admiral S.M. Moniruzzaman, Chairman of the CPA, and ATM. Anisul Millat, Managing Director of Medlog Bangladesh Private Limited, signed the contract on behalf of their respective organizations. Sakhawat Hussain remarked that the agreement marks a memorable day in the history of port management and initiates a new chapter in the development of Bangladesh’s logistics and trade infrastructure.
The Pangaon Internal Container Terminal is situated on the banks of the Buriganga River near Dhaka in Keraniganj, just three kilometers from the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway. Medlog SA, operating through its local entity, Medlog Bangladesh Private Limited, will oversee the operations, supply chain, and automation of the terminal. The aim is to leverage Medlog’s global expertise to achieve sustainable growth and position Bangladesh as a leader in internal logistics within the region.
To bolster regional trade, Medlog plans to enhance the terminal’s facilities and increase its annual handling capacity to 160,000 TEUs. A key focus of the agreement is strengthening multimodal connectivity. Medlog will charter internal barges to link Pangaon with other river ports and seaports, while trucks, covered vans, and reefer vehicles will establish additional supply channels throughout the region. This improved intermodal transport system is expected to reduce uncertainties related to internal cargo movement and ensure reliable lead times.
