Rajshahi: BNP Chairperson's Special Assistant and former Chairman of BIWTC Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas today highlighted the pivotal role of the transport sector in the national economy. He emphasized the significant contributions of workers' organizations to the economic transformation of Bangladesh.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Biswas made these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion organized by the North Bengal Regional Committee of the Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation. The event was held for the Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions at the Motor Workers Driving Training Center in Harigari, Islampur.
Biswas pointed out that the transport sector is inherently service-oriented, involving a vast number of people whose livelihoods depend on it. He lamented the negative perception of the sector, attributing it to the actions of a few extortionists and criticized the previous Awami League government for allegedly turning the industry into a center of looting and corruption.
He called on officials, including commissioners of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions, Range DIGs, police commissioners, district administrations, and superintendents of police, to persist in their efforts to maintain law and order. Biswas stressed the administration's crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the communication system.
The discussion also featured speeches from Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation acting President Abdur Rahim Box Dudu as the chief discussant and acting general secretary Humayun Kabir Khan as the special guest, with Vice President Md. Abdul Hamid Mitul presiding over the event.
