Dhaka: Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum has announced that Bangladesh is making progress in the health sector as part of its efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. She emphasized that overcoming the challenges faced in the health sector will require a coordinated approach that involves all stakeholders.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nurjahan Begum spoke at a workshop titled ‘From Evidence to Way Forward: Mid-term Reflections on Health SDG Progress in Bangladesh’ held at the CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka. She highlighted government initiatives, such as the promotion of approximately 7,500 doctors to various positions and the nearing completion of the recruitment process for 3,500 new doctors. Additionally, 3,500 nurses have already been appointed, with plans to recruit various categories of health workers and essential personnel to enhance healthcare delivery nationwide.

The adviser underscored the importance of collaborative and evidence-based actions to further reduce maternal and child mortality rates and to prevent deaths from non-communicable diseases by addressing their root causes. The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the World Health Organization (WHO), and representatives from other relevant ministries, departments, and organizations.
