Badarganj: Jamaat-e-Islami central executive council member ATM Azharul Islam has accused the leaders of the ruling party of fleeing the country amid a mass uprising, attributing their departure to rampant oppression and looting of property.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Azharul Islam made these remarks while addressing a street rally organized by Damodarpur Union Jamaat-e-Islami in Badarganj upazila of Rangpur. Highlighting the resilience of his party, he emphasized that no Jamaat-e-Islami leader has fled the country, asserting their innocence in the face of allegations.

Azharul Islam further alleged that 11 senior Jamaat-e-Islami leaders were unjustly killed under the guise of delivering justice. Despite these challenges, he noted that the party’s leaders have remained in the country, driven by their devotion to the nation. He reflected on his personal experience of being imprisoned for 14 years on what he described as false charges, attributing his survival to divine intervention.

Addressing other issues, Azharul Islam criticized the Awami League’s approach to foreign policy and resource management, particularly concerning the Teesta river water dispute and economic decisions related to transit corridors. He also highlighted the ongoing violence at the border, pointing out the killing of Bangladeshis by Indian Border Security Forces. He urged citizens to unite against what he termed a fascist regime and advocated for the rise of honest individuals to lead the nation.

In his concluding remarks, ATM Azharul Islam, who is also the Jamaat-e-Islami-nominated MP candidate for the Rangpur-2 constituency, promised a nation free from exploitation and injustice under Jamaat-e-Islami’s leadership. The rally saw participation from several party leaders, including Damodarpur Union President Mohammad Habibur Rahman Lavlu and others.
