Merit Test Exam to Boost Primary Education in Sunamganj

Sunamganj: Sunamganj district, known for its haors, is making strides to improve its education system with the introduction of the Merit Test-2025. The district has been struggling with a primary level student dropout rate of 5.95 percent.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Ilias Mia announced the initiative at a press conference in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. This new model, initially piloted in Shantiganj, aims to enhance primary education throughout the district.



The exam is scheduled for October 29 at 10 am and will see participation from fourth and fifth graders in 1,475 government primary schools across the district. A total of 76,485 students-41,164 in the fourth grade and 35,321 in the fifth grade-from 12 upazilas will sit for the exam.



To ensure the exam is conducted smoothly, a four-member committee has been established at the upazila level.
