Dhaka: Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the police has apprehended a leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from the capital's Keraniganj area on charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The arrested individual has been identified as Md. Miraj Khan, a 28-year-old leader from the Patuakhali District Chhatra League.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Miraj was detained during a raid conducted in the Keraniganj area at approximately 10:30 PM on Saturday, as detailed in a police press release. Miraj's involvement in various activities associated with the banned BCL, including processions and gatherings intended to incite instability, led to his arrest.
Miraj had participated in a BCL procession on September 15, 2025, which took place in front of Inquilab Bhaban in Motijheel. He had shared a video reel of this event on his Facebook account. Subsequently, on September 24, 2025, he organized a large gathering in the Farmgate area, allegedly aiming to create unrest and sabotage within Dhaka metropolis.
Further, on October 10, 2025, Miraj took part in another procession involving the Awami League and affiliated organizations in the Dhanmondi 27 area, which he also shared on Facebook. His role as an organizer in assembling people for various banned BCL processions has been underscored by police authorities.
A case has been registered against Miraj under the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Tejgaon Police Station.
