Chattogram: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has reassured the public of the commission's commitment to conducting a transparent and accountable election. "It will be a transparent election, nothing will be secret," he stated to journalists following a meeting with administration and law enforcement officials at the Chattogram Circuit House.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CEC emphasized that the Election Commission is dedicated to organizing an election that is open and visible to all, dismissing any notions of secrecy. Nasir Uddin further highlighted the commission's goal of creating an environment conducive for voters, ensuring that every citizen of Bangladesh has the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.
Provisions have been made to accommodate overseas ballots and electoral staff, allowing them to cast their votes. The CEC assured that the commission has no intention of hindering journalists in their professional duties and instead seeks their cooperation and partnership in advancing democracy.
Nasir Uddin also addressed concerns regarding the allocation of the Shapla symbol, stating it is not included in the prescribed list and therefore cannot be allocated to any political party. He expressed confidence in the leaders of the National Coordination Party (NCP), who led the July uprising in 2024, hoping they will not hinder democracy and will view the Election Commission's decision as patriotic.
Government officials have assured the CEC that the upcoming elections will be distinct from previous ones. Nasir Uddin mentioned that while some suggested shutting down the internet on election day, he does not support this idea as he advocates for the free flow of information.
The meeting was chaired by Divisional Commissioner Md. Ziauddin, with Election Commissioner Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar also in attendance.
